进行垃圾分类收集可以减少垃圾处理量和处理设备，降低处理成本，减少土地资源的消耗，具有社会、经济、生态等几方面的效益。
日本是如何应对垃圾分类产生的焦虑的？
1、不同县市区，垃圾分类规则不一样
日本以《废弃物处理及清扫相关法律》的形式，规定各个县市区必须有计划地对垃圾进行分类和收集处理。
2.日本是一个高度强调公民个人责任感的国家，因此各个县市区普遍实行严格的家庭垃圾分类制度。
准备在日本长住的留学生来日后去市役所进行住民登记时，往往都要接受工作人员对该地区垃圾分类规则的介绍并拿到相关的说明。
3.根据各个县市区人口数量、垃圾处理厂数量以及垃圾处理能力不同。有些垃圾处理能力高的县市区，垃圾分类规则往往没有垃圾处理能力低的县市区细致，比如不将塑料餐盒等单独分类而作为可燃垃圾一并处理。
虽然如今日本的垃圾分类制度十分严格细致，但是实际上日本的垃圾分类规则也是随着经济发展程度不断演变而来的。二战后，伴随人口的增长产生了大量垃圾，随意丢弃以及不规范的垃圾运送造成了海河污染、蚊虫肆虐等公共卫生问题。在日本的高度经济增长期（1955年-1973年），地方政府开始要求居民将家庭垃圾分为可燃和不可燃两类。后因塑料垃圾焚烧时产生的有害气体带来的严重大气污染随后开展的针对塑料垃圾和干电池分类的工作。之后，出于对有限资源进行循环利用的考虑，日本于1997年实施《容器包装循环利用法》，2000年以来，日本更加重视垃圾资源的循环利用，制订了《循环型社会形成推进基本法》提出了“3R处理”的步骤，3R是取英文Reduce，Reuse，Recycle三个单词首字母形成的简称。Reduce是指从源头上减少垃圾产生量。Reuse是指对使用过的产品和部件进行再次利用。Recycle是指将垃圾作为资源循环利用。
完全可以看出，日本在刚开始垃圾分类的时候也是有焦虑的，我们现在也才刚开始走这条路，有些错误的地方要随着时间不断改进，之后人们的适应和素质的提高和分类方法的科学性的改进，焦虑的情绪会慢慢消散的。
